Born and
raised near Detroit, Michigan, Sam Raimi is one of three talented brothers with
careers in the film industry. His parents were enterprising people, each
involved with running their own business, and were very supportive of what he
wanted to do. Sam became interested in making movies at a young age, after
watching his father make home movies. When he turned 13 years old his father
gave him a camera for his birthday, and so the legend began.
Sam met Bruce Campbell in junior high
school. Bruce had by this time already met Scott Spiegel (co-writer of Evil
Dead 2) and had been making silly Super-8 movies with friends of his while Sam
was doing magic shows and making his own movies with his other pals. Before
long they all began making Super-8 short movies together on the weekends.
Eventually Sam teamed up with Rob Tapert, Bruce Campbell, and Sam's older
brother Ivan Raimi to form Renaissance Pictures.
Sam has been successful in many aspects
of the film and television industry, including writing, directing, producing,
and even acting. See his filmography for more detailed information on his many
projects.
Most recently, Sam has returned to
directing feature films, including "A Simple Plan." (1998) and the
recently released "For Love of the Game," starring Kevin Costner and
Kelly Preston. His next film is "The Gift" written by Billy Bob
Thornton and starring Cate Blanchett. When he's not on the road with a film, he
resides in the Los Angeles area with his wife and three children.
